Amu is arguably one of the best and most highly respected hip-hop stars in South Africa. The star, whose real name is Amukelani Tshawane, has created a buzz like never before with the release of his debut rap album CD, The Life, Rap and Drama. His first single Attention featuring Pro-verb and Selwyn has received enough attention to gain chart spots around the country's radio stations. So huge is the track that radio stations have opted to play its remix before going for the next single from the album. Since being featured in a hip-hop compilation titled Tha Muthaload in 1996, industry people and experts felt Amu was ready enough to release a full-length album. Amu says the album took this long because he was waiting for the right time to release it. The intro takes one though the meaning of the album title and pays homage to hip-hop front runners, such as Prophets of the City (P.O.C) and Black Noise. The Life, Rap and Drama is also made up of a lot of rap styles and Amu moves from Zulu to English with ease. Tracks that stand out include Act Crazy, Phakamisa Feat. Mr Dust, Face The Facts, It's Over, Since I Met U, Buza and Kids Don't Learn with Busi. The album was recorded in his studio and done through his label Buvground Entertainment. With this label Amu plans to uncover talent and artists who do not have the chance to have their stuff released. Howza is the first artist to be signed to the label, and he is featured on the album on the tunes Who's The Villian, N.O. Mosity and the Attention remix.
