    Papazee - Psalm 23

  • Papa Zee’s ‘Psalm 23’ was released to large critical acclaim approximately 4 years ago. Papa Zee is one of the people who pioneered rap in Lesotho. As part of a crew called The Ethnics, Zee Dawg (as he was known backthen) was responsible for influencing a number of people involved in hip-hop at the time, and organising the now-infamous shows which were hosted at the now-defunct club in the Industrial Area. He is, therefore, no stranger to the hip-hopsphere in Lesotho.  2007, the newly-christened Papa Zee released ‘The Signature Album’ which, contrary to popular belief, was a compilation aimed at introducing people to the artists signed to his Struggle Entertainment imprint, an independent, pan-Afrikan music label. Some will remember tracks such as‘Mokhotsi’ and ‘Le se ‘ne le mpotsa’, and the more visually-inclined will definitelyremember the video to the track ‘Shopping’, which featured the Botswana-basedrap extraordinaire named Eureka. The arrangement is impeccable, and the subject matter flows seamlessly from one song to the other. ‘Psalm 23’ is a well-planned, well-executed project whichbears testimony to the high level of experience borne by its raconteur, Papa Zee. As background prior to listening to the album, bear in mind that it is based in theeighties, and the themes tackled are such that they reflect that time period, especially on tracks where he relays the day-to-day occurrence of criminal intent

    Mo`lemi - Amantsi

  • This is a long awaited offering from one of the young protégée, Motlapele whom I see as a hipster, an existential who preserves his humanity by seeing through the irony and absurdity of his agrarian and country life situation. In this album- Matlhale a Badimo a Mantsi Mr Mo empowers the native expressions without fear of being the mirror of the poor. His lyrical expressions are baseline from the Last Poets to Arrested Development to Fugees in representing the marginalized. He consistently calls for the Blue Collar revolution. This music is more about sound progression than a dance floor caricature. Mo is a social activist, a mirror all those having social issues

  • Morafe is a Hip-Hop group that fuses vernacular rap with a twist of soul and R&B.Morafe music involves influential messages in Setswana and English yet largely comprehended lingo. Morafereleased their highly anticipated debut album titled 'Maru a Pula' which is Tswana for 'Rain Clouds'. On the album, Morafe worked with producer wonderkid Thabiso 'Thaso' Tsotetsi, who polished their unique sound, which is mixes smooth R and B with raw rap vocals. Morafe brought a different element and sound not only to this type of music but also to the South African music scene. Morafe is the group to represent South African hip-hop music industry on an international level. Towdees lyrical style can be described as smooth and full of charisma. He brings the macaholic, floetic and lyrical flavour to Morafe music. Im five crews ahead of the game says Towdee. Khulis style is raw, yet incorporates a rhythmic and very unique flow into Morafe music. He says Hes the Motswakoriginator. Kay-G brings the milder taste by adding an R&B and more soulful flavour to Morafe music. Kay-G is the soul of Morafe music..

    Notshi - Insert Coin

  • Insert Coin is a confident boast from the Itoseng-raised artist but it's one that is backed up by, hands down, one of the best urban albums to be released in 2010. The 20-track offering is already having a significant impact on South Africa's hip-hop scene with its
skilled and sussed combination of tracks that are as much about the challenges of being in the music industry (the wake-up call Oikepela Lebitla featuring KG) as about love ("My Lady Song") or parties ("Birthday Weekend"). 'Insert Coin'features Mo`lemi, Kuli Chana (on the gossip-slaying "Sheba Tsa Hoa (Mabarebare)", Nathi on the moving "I Believe", and Element and Sifiso on "Convoy".  roduction-wise Notshi chose to work with DJ Hypnosis ("I love the stuff he produces," he says) as well as D Mongz which whom he worked previously and who has worked with the likes of Proverb (Manuscript), HHP, Zubz (Headphone music in a parallel world), Tukz (The Monopoly), H20 (Sheleng), Navio (Uganda) and Jay (Nigeria). As much as he is pursuing a new school Motswako sound, Notshi is super-aware of the legacy of this popular hip hop genre - and the dues he's been allowed to pay through his earlier collaborative work with some of Motswako's forerunners.

  • Miss Nthabi Steming from a cypher background, Nthabi is known to most as the “battle chic”. However, a lot has changed since the release of her solo E.P titled “From the Streets to the Lab”. Released under Outrageous Records, the E.P received over 25 000 downloads worldwide and served as a reflection of what is yet to come from this young talented MC who has only just gotten started. As an artist on the now-defunct indie label, Outrageous Records, Nthabi hibernated in the studio where she recorded with pH, the producer who brought us hits by Khuli Chana and Ill Skillz. But it took three years to reach the shelves. In 2010, Miss Nthabi dropped “Welcome to Me” featuring some of the best producers in the country. The album received high critical praise with standout tracks such as “Move” and “Fly”.

  • The year was 2005,  there was the occasional jingle that would be rapped by Sizwe ‘Reason’ Moeketsi. There was also a behind the scenes guy by the name of Tebogo Thekisho aka Proverb, who was the technical producer of the show, who’d make appearances on the show with freestyles and the eternal opening line on a freestyle on June 16 where he said, “I’m glad I didn’t partake in apartheid”. His Music career boasts 4 amazing studio albums and one awesome Mixtape Album – his albums include Book of ProVerb Album “released in 2007“, Manuscript “released in 2007“, Write of Passage “released in 2010?, Fourth Write “released in 2012? and his Mixtape “Off Da Books“. Proverb’s debut is one of the most respected albums in SA history. At 9 years, it still comes up in conversations when talking about SA hip-hop. With Proverb on his fourth album, aptly titled Fourthwrite, he has earned his stripes as an MC. This here is  another classic
