  • The Cathedral is a new project from Talib Kweli and his new media company Javotti Media. The outfit’s goal is “designed to develop, promote, and release content from tomorrow’s artists today. The project features several artists, both known and relatively unknown, creating a solid compilation of the artists Kweli is looking to promote alongside the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Joell Ortiz and Kweli himself, among others. The standout track off the tape is made up of solely the high-profile acts on Kweli’s “Everywhere I Go” featuring the familiar faces of New Orleans’ Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T., and veteran vocalist Kendra Ross. All three featured artists have all done work with Kweli in previous years, but the amalgamation of the group is a real treat for any Hip-Hop purist.

    Caskey - Black Sheep

  • The YMCMB family has always been home to its share of eccentrics but, even in such unusual company, Caskey unconventional style sets him apart. And he wouldn't have it any other way. On his latest mixtape, Black Sheep, the Florida phenom wears his nonconformity as a badge of honor. Follow-up the late 2013's The Transient Classics, the project is "less wordy" than the artist's previous work, but packs all of the lyrical insights and dope surprises fans have come to expect. None of its 11 tracks has been released as a single or featured in the Booth to date. Caskey is the sole vocalist on the set, but receives support from a formidable lineup of producers, among them The Avengerz, AyoTheProducer, The Mekanics and WLPWR (of Supahot Beats).

  • Whether fictitious or fact-based, Illuminati rumors seem to be here to stay in hip-hop. Even if the media strays away from posting feeble rumors about rappers' affiliation to the secret society, Twitter users (and Jeezy album art) will always be there to keep the tradition alive. Today, Nino Bless cheekily references the 'nati with his new mixtape Illuminati Reject. Complete with artwork that features the society's iconic Eye of Providence symbol shedding blood red tears, the tape boasts guest appearances from Hemi, Neenah, Rafijah Siano and Cambatta. You feeling this latest tape from Nino? Let us know in the comments.

    Shugasmakx – Numba 1

    By: Muse On: 00:23

  • Shugasmakx is the co-founder and star of the legendary, multiple award winning SA hip hop group "Skwatta Kamp". Numba 1 is Shugasmakx’s one-man debut and it follows on the heels of solos by other Skwattas such as Slikour, Nemza, and Bozza, and according to Smakx, it’s set apart from what you’d expect from a Skwatta Kamp album and it released independently through Buttabing Entertainment. The first thing you hear on Numba 1 is a metallic clatter cutting through what sounds like a Jay-Z voice sample – (“number one”) – and for a second you’re right in the middle of Jay and Pharrel’s “Blue Magic”-New York – then the bass gains momentum, the drums roll in, and the beat starts pounding back with that unmistakeable Jozi griminess. And there’s no time wasted: Shugasmakx clambers on top of the beat sounding straight outta “Rau-Rau”: merciless, vicious, and hurling out some of the rawest punchlines to come out of the Skwatta camp since 2002’s Khut ‘N Joyn.
